Our Spring Workshop is an acting extravaganza! You'll learn characterization, movement, vocal skills--all you need for a great performance. Taught by Director/Teacher Rebekah Griesmyer, the Spring Workshop is geared for the young actor of any experience level. Limited to the first 25 students to register. Cost for workship is $150.

Life on the American frontier comes to the VLA Children's Theatre this May. It's the adventures of Huck, a teenage boy, who meets a runaway slave named Jim. What ensues is adventure and the lessons of a lifetime!

Once On This Island, Jr.
August 15-17
Friday shows begin at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 p.m.
Approximate running time 60-80 minutes

Workshop begins on July 28th and runs through August 15. Attendees will meet from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Monday through Friday. This workshop is open to children age 7 through high school. We will take the first 40 students who register. Call VLA offices at (254) 526-9090 for more info. Cost is $150.00

Once On This Island Junior is a Caribbean adaptation of the popular Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Little Mermaid featuring a poignant story and catchy, Caribbean-flavored score.

This is the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a young man from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

Told in a presentational style reminiscent of story theatre, it is equally effective regardless of its cast size and features minimal - though colorful - sets and costumes that capture the imagination of the audience. Creative dance or movement-driven staging is also part of the show's style, calling upon performers to portray trees, wild animals and even a fierce rainstorm.

With its touching story and catchy pop and Caribbean flavored score by songwriters of the film Anastasia and the Broadway smash Ragtime, Once On This Island Junior is a multi-cultural feast for the heart, mind and soul.
